Procession with the Icon of the Appearance of Christ Concludes in Elista

The icon of the Appearance of Christ the Saviour was welcomed at the Church of Sophia, the Wisdom of God. A Divine Liturgy concluded its journey across Kalmykia.

On 29 August, the icon of the Appearance of Christ the Saviour in Elista arrived at the Church of Sophia, the Wisdom of God, in the capital of Kalmykia, completing its journey through the republic’s districts.

A Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the church. After the service, worshippers were able to venerate the icon and offer prayers before the revered image.

The procession concluded on the Feast of the Image of the Saviour Not Made by Hands. Bringing the icon to local communities enabled residents across Kalmykia to encounter the shrine ahead of the September celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Appearance of Christ the Saviour in Elista.

The icon is kept at the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Elista and commemorates the event that occurred during prayer in 1946.
