The Icon of the Appearance of Christ the Savior Arrived in Gorodovikovsk
The venerated icon arrived at the Church of Saint Tsesarevich Alexei in Gorodovikovsk, where it remained for two days.
On 16 August, the venerated icon “The Appearance of Christ the Savior in Elista” arrived at the Church of Saint Tsesarevich Alexei in Gorodovikovsk.
The icon remained in Gorodovikovsk District for two days before continuing to Priyutnoye. Its journey through the parishes of the Diocese of Elista and Kalmykia began on 14 August with the blessing of Archbishop Justinian.
The itinerary concludes on 29 August, the feast of the Image of the Savior Not Made by Hands. The journey allows residents across the republic to venerate the icon before the September celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Appearance of Christ the Savior.
The icon is kept in Elista’s Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and commemorates the event witnessed during prayer in 1946.
